Why is Lahm STILL in Defensive Midfield?
Anyone?
Please. If a proper answer can be given to this then I will be more than happy to shut the HELL up.
Anyone?
Because maybe its just me who is a little crazy or mad. But I thought that you know, you play your players in their best positions. Oh, and when that player is one of THE best in his position, surely you would not even have to consider playing him anywhere else.
Surely?
Because it is hard for me to defend the fact Bart Simpson is one of the best footballers around when he is not being allowed to show just how amazing he is. And not sure if Pep knows this, but when you are forced into the middle of the pitch, it is congested and there is erm....less space. I mean, does he know this?
I also wonder whether Pep tuned into the World Cup or if he watched what Heynckes did with that amazing Bayern team. Did he see just how big of an influence Lahm has on a team and how they attack? So why the HELL would he play him in defensive midfield?
Imagine for a second if Cafu was shoved in as a defensive midfielder? Or if they just put Marcelo in front of the defence. All their talents and skills would be put to complete and utter waste. Because players who are naturally flank players don't work well when they are stuck right in the heart of the midfield.
The only logical explanation I can think of for Pep trying to do this is that he simply wants to be different. He wants to succeed on his own terms and does not want to be in the shadow of the great Heynckes. And you see, there is a problem there. This is about winning. It's not HOW you win it is whether or not you can get it done.
By not playing the best right back in the world in his favored position, he is hurting Bayern and seriously giving them a crutch that means against better teams than Porto, they will lack an important attacking dimension. And why...to just be different. Well, sure, you can be different all you want but Pep, you will judged by that Champions League. If you don't bring home that candy, ultimately it would have been a failure on your part.
Stick to the rules, and there are just some things you DON'T change.
Put Bart Simpson back where he belongs, and automatically Bayern will create more and better chances and Lewandowski, Muller and Goetze will get more in the game.HH
