From Roadman to Striking Sensation....Meet Jamie Vardy

Amazing.

I will confess. I wasn't paying much attention to this goal streak Mr. Vardy was on only until recently when he was close to breaking it. Maybe it was a figment of my imagination. I was living in another world. Nope. Somehow, someway, a dude who was playing non-league football a few years ago, now holds the Premier League record of most goals scored in consecutive games, defeating Van Nistelrooy's crazy run, when he was at United.

When you go on a scoring run such as this, it's all about instinct and adrenalin. There is really not a lot of though involved. Your mind and body have entered a space where you just know when to make that run, and how to finish. That's what has happened with Vardy. It's not like he is scoring amazing goals, and beating five or six players. He's just doing the right things, and always hitting that sweet spot. Even with his goal today. He hadn't done much in the game, but he picked his moment. His teammate knew the kind of run he makes, played the right ball, Vardy timed the run to perfection and finished it off.

Presto.

But we need to also give credit to Ranieri. He seems lost in the Vardy praise. The very fact that Leicester have been around the top of the table, have all been down to the amazing work he has been doing. Organization, tactical discipline and playing good football. Vardy has fitted in well with Ranieri's framework, and his goals have come off from the foundation of the forward-thinking football that Ranieri has brought into the club. Without the strategy and the tactics, Leicester would be in mid-table or lower and I doubt Vardy would get the opportunities he has had to score these goals.

Let us be realistic here. Vardy is not a great footballer, not is a he a great striker. He's a pretty good striker though, but this is just an amazing moment that he is having. This does not now mean he will take the Euros by storm and lead them onto amazing glory. He has been playing in the Premieship which has fallen down the pecking order recently, and International football is of a much higher standard where he just won't be given the kind of space you are accustomed to in England.

But congratulations to Vardy. An amazing achievement that will take some time to meet. It would be great if he could be a bit more imaginative in his post-match interviews, but that would be asking too much. He's paid to score G's, not to be a spokesperson for Planet Earth. He has done his job very well, and now he should just go out and play since the record his done. After all, football is not about personal achievements, it's about medals and trophies.
