Not Too Sure About Mark Hughes Working for Chelsea

For those of you who didn't know, or who are not of the age to remember when Mark Hughes used to play for Chelsea, I send my greetings. Yes, Hughes is a Chelsea old boy although his best years were spent at United. That is probably the only reason why Hughes's name is even in the hat.

The man himself said that he merely treats it all as speculation, and not Chelsea realistically looking at him as a candidate when Hiddink leaves. He's been doing really well with Stoke and they were very unlucky to lose against Liverpool. Only if they remembered the rules of the game and actually put the ball inside the net. That may have helped, who knows.

Hughes and Chelsea just don't mix. I see him as more a mid-table coach, for teams who have potential but aren't at the very top. Abramovich should be going for the cream of the crop, the very best in the game. It's only a big time manager that can handle the egos that you have with these overpaid prima-donnas called "modern footballers."

Once upon a time, Hughes managed such a team. When City were starting their big money project, Hughes was in charge. Those were the days of Elano, where City followed in the footsteps of Abramovich, in trying to build a superstar team overflowing with money. Hughes ultimately did not get the results and couldn't get the team playing at the very high level required of a club with such stature.

So this should be put to bed pretty soon, but thought I would just share my sixteen cents on the matter. I don't even know why Hiddink has to go, unless he only wanted the job on a temporary basis. Hughes did really well as a player for Chelsea, scoring a great reverse volley in their Cup Winners Cup run. As their manager? Nah.
