Can Spurs Recover from One of THE Great Bottle Jobs after 5-1 Smackdown?
Man. I don't know what happened here. Tottenham should be really the runners-up in the Premiership, but after a run of bad results it all culminated in one of the strangest ends to a season I've ever seen.
Tell me; how many teams have conceded three goals to relegated one who have one man less?
There was a lot riding on this game. Finishing above Arsenal would have been a huge deal and showed how far they have come under Pochettino. After always being the losers in the battle of North London, this would have crystallized a great season and something nice to make up for losing out on the league.
For them to not only lose to Newcastle but their asses spanked and have a man up which meant Arsenal overtook them on the last day, can destroy any kind of confidence you can have. It would make those Spurs players feel that whatever they do, they will always be in Arsenal's shadow.
When you think that all they needed was only a draw against a team who were relegated and they also had the extra man, it was put on a plate for them. So to crash out, has to hurt real bad. Doesn't matter that they came third and are in the Champions League. They were close to the title and now ended up behind both Leicester and their rivals.
Pochettino has to somehow raise their spirits. Build them right up, because this can totally destroy all the great work that they've done this season. Because it's been an incredible year for Spurs, one of their best in a very long time and they've scored a lot of goals. So they need to build upon this for next season and put things right and finish above Arsenal, who don't look like they will really improve next year.
5-1? Damn.....
