Dortmund Fans have to ACCEPT Hummels going to Bayern

Welcome to modern football. It is what it is. The big gets bigger and the small gets smaller. You may have anomalies like Leicester and Atletico, but most of the time it's going to be that small elite group that keeps on widening the gap. And the best players of the smaller teams will find ways of going to the bigger ones. Hummels being the next in line.

This is different though. It isn't totally a case of a player wanting to move to a bigger club solely to win trophies which is pretty much what Gotze and Lewandowski did. They would be lying like piranhas if they said otherwise. Theirs was a move that was purely about wanting to get that silverware, something that in their minds they couldn't achieve at Dortmund. I personally feel that's just wrong, but there you go.

The case of Hummels is different. He came from Bayern. Something neither Gotze or Lewandowski can say. A lot of his family are from Munich, so in a sense, his argument would be that he's just returning home from whence he came. Obviously it's also a case of wanting to win because if Bayern were Augsburg, he wouldn't be clamoring to return. So whilst you can sort of get angry at him, you really can't. Ultimately though, there is no room for name-calling or insults.

If I was a Dortmund fan, die-hard and from the area, I would despise Lewandowski and Gotze. What they did goes against the very foundation of being a footballer and competitor. Yes, it's about winning, but doing in the correct manner. There's nothing proper about just wanting to jump ship so that you can win trophies. How is that sporting or showing yourself to be a true competitor?

The same cannot be said for Hummels. It's all the more painful because he's the captain, but he came from Bayern. That is his true hometown. He has come out and announced that he wants to go and isn't leaving people in the dark by delaying the signing of a contract. I think he's handles this in the best way and the fans just have to suck this one up and instead aim their anger at the establishment.

The problem is bigger than Gotze, Lewandowski and Hummels. It's about introducing a cap system that doesn't allow one team to pretty much cherry-pick the best players from their rivals. HH
