How Do Real Madrid Beat Atletico for Champions League Glory?
The Favorites.
That's what Zidane will or should be telling his boys. They are Real Madrid, the most successful team in this competition, the team with the better individual players, and they've been here before against the same team and come out as victorious.
That mentality can also be hindrance. The worst thing Real can do is be overconfident and I'm sure based on the previous matches they've had with Atletico, they wouldn't be so thick as to have that kind of mentality. So as much as they will respect their rivals to a degree, some bravado and flair is what will carry them over Atletico.
Simeone's men know how to play and are nice on the ball, but Real have gotten here solely on their focus on attack. Defense is not really their calling and Marcelo has been accused for giving the finger to his defensive duties. In attack though is where Real have shone with Zidane making the team play some truly magestic football, just like in his playing days. It's that kind of football that may be too much for Atletico to deal with. Eventually.
I say eventually, because Real are going up against the best defensive team in Europe. So this won't be a case of them having a million chances. This will have to be done through hard work and continually trying to break down the staunch wall. An important way of doing that is having Modric dictate the game and giving him the freedom to pick the passes to start trying to chip away.
This is a game where I think, apart from Cristiano's goalscoring prowess, where Beast Mode (Bale) and Marcelo will be hugely important. See, the way you breach a tough defensive set-up like Atletico is by using ingenuity and imagination. Playing obvious square passes and just pumping crosses in won't cut it. Players like Marcelo who is one of the most gifted footballers in the world can provide that and with Beast Mode being given a free role to roam, this is the foundation Real need to build on to disrupt the carefully constructed defensive setup of Atletico. As long as the big players show up for Real and dominate the game then Real will win this.
Diagonal movement with players using the space to carry the ball and not straight obvious lines. HH
