Roberto Martinez...has been SACKED by Everton

Who is really surprised about this? How long did Martinez think he could take the mickey mouse and keep on defending like a bunch of confused crack-addicts? This was the inevitable outcome and anyone could see this coming from a mile. The saddest thing about this is I think Martinez will feel that he has somehow been hard done by.

As a neutral and non-supporter of Everton, I was a fan of them. They were involved in the most exciting games in the Premiership. The way in which they attacked with every man, woman and child with no regard to being cautious or sitting back was why they were in such entertaining games. So for that, I have to thank Martinez.

However, this isn't really about guys like me. It's about the Everton supporters and how well their club does. Being entertaining is cool, but if it comes at the expense of winning and falling way below your fierce rivals, then pleasing the crowd can piss right off. End of the day, despite Martinez creating a lovely team to watch, they didn't get the results and they lost games they shouldn't have.

The game that summed up this season for Everton was when they played Chelsea at the Bridge. It was an amazing game, a lot of goals and all round excitment. Everton scored in injury time, and with that it was assumed they would win the game. That's what injury time goals are supposed to be. Once you score, you win, because it's far too much of a task for the opposing team to score again so deep in injury.

Not so for Everton. Somehow, they allowed John Terry of all people to score again and they ended up throwing away a victory. That's simply unacceptable and it showed Everton's inability to defend and grind out results. It's a problem that had plagued them all season and Martinez had no answers.

Everton had to pull the plug and start all over next season. Now, the board have to get someone who can maintain the entertaining football because their talent demands that, but can marry that with results, a better defense and a winning mentality.

After all, this IS the winning business. HH
