I'm a Quaresma fan.
That might seem odd to y'all because you would wonder why I would be a fan of a player who plies his trade for....Besiktas.
Well, let's throw a little respeck to Besiktas. I don't know why, but let's do so anyway. But this isn't about them. This is about the most talented player who has never realised his potential...not even close. A guy with incredible ability who has done some of the most outrageous things on a football pitch but never quite made it.
I am one of those analysts who only needs to see a player do one thing and be convinced that they have that IT factor. I don't need to see them play five matches or a season. They just need to do certain things. Just like what Gotze did in that World Cup final. He as the IT factor. Doesn't matter that he hasn't lived up to the hype at club level, he's a world class player.
Same goes for Quaresma.
He has done some things that I have not seen anyone do. His confidence and arrogance on the ball is what makes him standout. Problem is that he's not been able to translate that into proper effectiveness and consistency over a whole season. He's been in and out of big clubs and has had to be cut because he just hasn't found the right fit for his talents.
With the Euros coming up, I'm glad Santos picked him and now this is probably his last chance to make one last big shout. His club career will never take off, but he can at least give on last hurrah for his nation. This is where he can show the world that he may not have made it, but he still knows how to play the sport very well and has incredible ability.
Dude just needs to enjoy himself and play freely. Hopefully Santos pops him off on that wing, and he and Cristiano can wreck havoc, cutting on the inside and outside and alternate out wide or ghost in as strikers. I want to see Quaresma really unleash all the tricks he has, because has a few of them. Hopefully, he can bring some entertainment to a tournament that is in danger of maybe being a borefest. HH
