FIFA 48-Team Format Would be IDIOTIC

Infantino is really looking for the shortest stint as FIFA President if he goes ahead with the idiotic and ill-advised notion of having a 48-team World Cup.

I mean, what the FUDGE?! To even think of something so foolish, actually makes me physically sick, and especially when he wants to mess with one of the most beloved and watched events in the entire world.

Infantino's heart is in the right place, and I understand why he wants to do this. After all, this is called the World Cup, and football is a global game and there is no argument that it's the most popular sport on our planet. So it makes sense to want to involve as many countries as possible to promote greater participation.

But this is a competition. It's not a community event. This is supposed to be the best of the best, so you strive to get two months of the best piece of football.

You have to ask yourselves what the point of qualifications are. Because I thought, and maybe I am mistaken, that the very existence of them were to establish the very best teams from each continent. So when the World Cup starts what we have as viewers are the best football teams from all around the world.

I don't want a situation where you have a series of matches that are of poor quality, and people tune away from. We all love to see people from all corners of the globe bring their own colours and culture to the event, but at the end of the day the most important thing must be the standard of the competition.

The answer lies with how you view a World Cup.

If you're a casual fan, then the World Cup is a social event and just a chance to mix with other people, which of course is a nice thing to have. It's one of the rare global events, apart from the Olympics, were people from so many different backgrounds can congregrate and enjoy themselves.

On the other end of the spectrum, if you are a proper football fan, you want to see the best of the best, and have those memorable moments that you can only get when the finest footballers are on display.

But you could say that by the team you get to the quarter-finals, all the lesser teams will be weeded out, so then there should be no harm in allowing more teams to participate.

That argument still falls when you want maintain the integrity of the World Cup and what the competition means; which is to have the top countries of the continents in the world all compete against each other.

Infantino, thanks for the suggestion, but football fans reject this notion. Don't mess with something that's already perfect the way it is.
