The Chinese Super League WILL Become A Major Force
The Chinese Super League is coming and those who don't think that they will soon be able to compete with the other more established European powers are gravely mistaken.
Why?
Because money makes the world go round, and one market is paying just as much if not more than most clubs in Europe.
When I first heard of the first few batch of players heading to China, I made nothing of it. You saw the astronomical amounts of money they would be earning but it was ignored, because it was seen as players heading to early retirement by going to an uncompetitive market.
Also, these were older players like Eto'o and so forth which didn't make much headlines. If you're getting to that age where you are finding it hard to make into the first team at Milan or Barcelona, then it's a smart move to go and earn riches in China.
Beats a sub-standard pension.
It was when players like Asamoah Gyan and Graziano Pelle made the move that eyebrows got raised and we all sat up to at least take notice. These were players in their prime, who moved to China when they were still able to get into the first team for their clubs.
So different from Eto'o in that these were guys in their mid-twenties and were actually doing well for their clubs, being crucial for the team, so when they packed up and moved to China, it made more headlines than when Eto'o did his.
However, I viewed it as an aberration, with those players being anomalies and there not being a trend that would follow. So again, took a bit more notice, but ignored and carried on focusing on the events in Europe.
Fast-forward to 2016 and both Oscar and Tevez will be the latest to move to China, with the latter being the best paid player on the planet.
China...you have my attention.
It doesn't matter that Tevez is much older, although with the way Aguero and Higuain have been playing for Argentina he'd be a useful alternative even at his age All that matters is him being paid more than Cristiano and Lionel.
China have that clout, and Tevez's transfer has made headwaves and will raise the awareness of every footballer who feels they want to or perhaps deserve to make more than they currently earn in Europe.
Sorry guys, but money talks and a young up and coming player will pause if he has a choice between the prestige of Barcelona, and the insane amount of wealth he could earn in a short time heading to Shanghai SIPG.
In time, I believe that the Chinese Super League will be a market just as important as Europe. It will supercede the MLS because of how much more appreciation and understanding the Chinese have of the game than the Americans.
But it's all that money. The temptation is too great, and in a world where loyalty doesn't exist
anymore and you have the taxman on your back, and how unstable the European markets can be; footballers will really be drawn to what China have to offer.
At the end of the day it's just a game, whereas feeding your family and generations to come after is far more important.
Europe will always be the premier market and that won't change for some time, but China are rising, and in a few years, the world of football will be rather different where some of the biggest stars will be choosing to ply their trade in the Far East.
