But let's talk real. Angel could have done a lot better for United. If he played to his potential, United could have probably been more of a proper and realistic challenge for Chelsea, instead of the tepid ones by Arsenal and City. He is THAT good and when he's on his game, he's easily one of the best natural wingers in the world. Don't be confused and label him a failure because of one bad season for United where personal issues could have contributed to him not really being top dollar.
United's aim after finally getting to the top four is to win the title. Ferguson did not sweat and do all that hard work for his club to just be content with making it into the top four. They have won too many titles for the benchmark to be lowered. And for them to do so, Di Maria will be needed because wingers are vital in this modern game in turning matches into your favour. You can just look at Neymar, Cristiano and Robben to see how the wider players are becoming a lot more important than they were before.
Van Gaal has done very good things for Ashley Young who was deadly last season. And if you think of United having TWO wingers that can dribble, deliver crosses and score, those are weapons that their rivals don't possess...not even Mourinho. So before United start getting forklifts to force Di Maria off their patch, they should really have a long think and look at the bigger picture. If Di Maria is sold....who do you get to replace him? Which winger is as good as Di Maria on one of his better days?
It goes both ways. Di Maria will not and should not stay if Van Gaal does not give him his word that he will be a starter and have faith in him. Everyone deserves a second chance, and when you're as good as we know Di Maria can be (2014 Champions League run?) then give him another and allow HH to be proven right of him being the best player in the league. Hazard is very good, but Eden on his best day against Di Maria on his best day....HH is rolling with the Argentine. More dynamic, better crosser and more versatile in the way he can hurt you.
