The Chances for United under Van Gaal Next Season
This upcoming season for Man United and Van Gaal could really determine the foreseeable future of this "great" football club that was forged by the truly legendary Alexander Jeremiah Ferguson. This is the season where Van Gaal has had his summer, has now spent the year with the team and must prove whether he can take the club out of the exceedingly long and daunting shadow that Fergie lay.
When you are looking at the transfers that Van Gaal has made, there isn't really that one player who has convinced me into believing that this will be their year. It's not like when Arsenal bought the Zillage or Alexis, or City getting Aguero or Yaya Toure. Their main buys have really been Depay and Bastian. Depay is not a proven cat who you can pin your hopes on. Not trying to call the Dutch League a meeting spot for all bricklayers from all backgrounds, but just with the French League, all because you've popped off in the Eredevisie, does not mean that you will do the same at one of the most competitive leagues in the world. Apart from him, there really is no other player that makes me get off my seat and take notice because of how they could potentially reconstruct things in the Premiership.
Bastian is just not the same player he was a few years ago. People seem to think that it's 2013, when in fact we are in 2015. Bastian's injuries and his amazing efforts in that World Cup final have meant that he just does not possess the legs and stamina to play at that level anymore. Skill IS skill, and I will not deny that having a dude who has played at high level games at the club and international is a damn good addition, especially where Carrick is your main midfielder. However, he is not a player that can make me now hail United as title favorites.
But then there's the Pedro factor...
Even though Van Gaal has not made any purchases, but just buys, they are good buys. Depay, Schneiderlin and Bastian are all good buys. The aim that Van Gaal is looking for is building a functional team that can win several games in a row and realistically challenge Chelsea for the title. IF however, they can get their paws on Pedro and lure his ass away from the very shiny and warm Barcelona bench, then perhaps people will have to now take notice as United being genuine contenders for the title. This is in tune with the fact that Van Gaal made a genius move by somehow convincing my boy Mourinho that Falcao can still offer them something and Chelsea not really getting any quality in.
I am hoping at least, we won't be seeing United losing at home to Swansea with these additions that they have and with the team towards the end of the season playing that passing game that Van Gaal loves so much. If they can bring in Pedro, Rooney can actually at least live up to HALF the hype that people spew about him and Depay really takes the season by storm, and that defense can keep things tight....Chelsea will have much tougher title rivals than Arsenal or CIty based on a manager who knows what the HELL he is doing and can match Jose for tactical tweaks and alternative approaches.
