Dortmund MUST Keep hold of Gundogan in this Transfer Window
He. Must. Not. Be. Sold. No. Matter. How. Much. They. Offer.
(But it would be hard to reject a billion)
Dortmund have been reborn and are playing superhuman football under Tuchel. They are one of the most entertaining teams to watch and they surely have sealed their top four. But it's not certain yet. The Bundesliga if you take Bayern away, is very competitive, and them losing their last game shows that top four is not sealed.
In order to achieve this, they need their best players, and there has been no one better in the Dortmund shirt than Gundogan. Oh yes, don't argue with this, but he's one of the top three central midfielders in the world. An excellent footballer and the heart of this ace Dortmund team.
As is with modern football, clubs have deep pockets. Any smaller team who has that star player face the inevitable of having to sell them off, as is the way with football today. I still wait for a new law to be passed or a committee to protect competition and allow for teams to keep players that they develop and nurture. But it seems those in charge enjoy having an exclusive club of teams that walk their domestic leagues.
Tuchel and the Dortmund board will have to work hard to keep Gundogan, but they can't offer him the world. That won't be right, and would send the wrong message to the rest of the players. He should certainly be one of the highest paid at the club based on how invaluable he is to the team. But he can't be offered what that joker Rooney received. If another club offers him ten times more, then it's up to the player himself to make the right decision.
Gundogan has to think about Gotze. Mario was the young darling of German football destined to be the next superstar. Since moving to Bayern he's not improved and has been dancing between the bench and playing a bit-part in Bayern. That would be disastrous for Gundogan. He's in a good place now with a team that's going placed and an exciting manager. There is no reason to leave, and this allure of playing for a "big club" is overrated. What really counts is achieving great things with a club that has helped you grow and fans that have watched your rise.
That's what counts Ilkay...don't screw up your career.
