Sad. It's actually very sad and depressing to see the depths that France have fallen. The team that had one of the greatest footballers in the world, and were once the best in the world. Now, they can't SCORE AGAINST GEORGIA? And have gone HOURS without scoring. It's really quite sad. But, don't put the blame on Deschamps who is a BETTER coach than Blanc.
I feel that there really are only TWO exceptional players in the whole of France; Ribery and Pogba. The real problem is that these two players are not known scorers...which Zidane, Wiltord, Pires and co were. Combine that with the fact that Benzema must be the most pointless striker I have ever seen, and Giroud is....OKAY....France have issues.
But it can't be all gloom and doom. France DID just win the Under-20 World Cup lead by Pogba. They do have the European player of the year in Ribery. So, what is the problem? I believe it's a case of a belief and a mental block. When you go so long without scoring....believe it or not, you actually forget how to do it. You don't take shots when you should, and once that chance appears...you don't have the confidence to take it.
The players have to now take it upon themselves to do France proud and to play like the talented men they are. I think it starts with Ribery. As the clear-cut best player in the team, he has to lead by example and PUSH the team forward. It's what Zidane did where he accepted the role as the star man and took the bull by the horns and lead his forth. This is what Deschamps needs to do. He has to take Ribery aside and tell him he has to command this team, he has to inspire confidence and if he plays well and ATTACKS, others will follow his lead.
As for Benzema....he needs to take a LONG look at himself in the mirror and ask himself this question...
AM I OR AM I NOT A DAMN STRIKER?!!!!
