Can the Roma Train Keep on Going?

Nine victories. No Losses. No draws. Roma have started the Serie A season in SPECTACULAR fashion. Not only have they won all their matches, but they have done so with a mixture of great attacking football, great defending but with also a deep killer character. They are showing all the traits of league champions. But as we all know with football and life unfortunately, good things never seem to last. So it's now the job of Rudy Garcia to defy the doubters like myself and continue to take Roma further into invincible category. One only needs to look at the next fixtures to see that there is every chance of them not only to go unbeaten, but to ACTUALLY KEEP ON WINNING.

Chievo are the next team up for the all-conquering Roma. If you are to look at statistics, Roma should win this. Well, if you looked at statistics in 2004, Greece had NO business going best France...but we all know how that all ended. So, the worst thing that Roma can do is to expect to automatically win the game. This may actually be a lot tougher, because of the psychological mindframe of EXPECTING to win it comfortably.
It's still early in the season for Chievo, and this is the match that they can look to for a reversal of their season. When you are playing away, as a smaller team...not doing so well, against a much better team...you really have nothing to lose. So for Chievo, it will be about just playing freely and as the match draws on without Roma scoring...there is always THAT chance that WILL fall to Chievo...and it's a matter of them taking it.

Looking even further beyond the Chievo match, one man that Garcia must look to is TOTTI. Roma have many excellent players, that may be far more penetrative than Totti. But I am talking psychology here. I am talking about leadership, and the man you can look to for grinding out results and winning the midfield warfare. For that, you need someone with skill, experience and with that bit of character. Right now, Totti has shown that he has built some steel in those veins. He no longer has the long wavy hair. The hair is shorter, he is meaner, and has now been playing some of the best football of his career. So just like Vieira with the Invincibles and Pirlo for Juventus, both those players were integral to their incredible runs. For Garcia, he will need Totti to really be at the heart of the Roma team for the season. If he can get the best out of him every week, this is what will keep Roma in the title hunt FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON.

Finally, every team looking for that title needs that STAR MAN. The man who they look to for the goals and to spark the team into victory. For the former Arsenal man, he may have found solace under Garcia. Gervinho for me is looking like one of the most dangerous attacking players in the world. Yes, a lofty claim, but sue me if you like. EVERY TIME he is on the ball, something positive happens. He looks to dribble past players, and aims for the heart of defence fearlessly. With his absence against Udinese and the introduction of.....the brick....aka...BORRIELLO, it is clear just the great importance that Gervinho is to Roma. When he plays, Roma are THE most dangerous attacking team in the whole of Serie A. For Juventus are more of a complete package...but the flair and the way that Roma come forward is unlike any other team in the Serie A.

The journey continues tomorrow against Chievo. I hope to watch it, and hopefully see Roma continue on winning. They really are bringing in many football fans who forgot about them. If Garcia can continue to get them playing this way as well as maintaining that DESIRE to win EVERY game, we may be seeing people divert their attentions away from Barcelona and onto Roma.

In the words of my Italian brothers....FORZA ROMA!!!!
