Arsenal MUST NOT Let Sagna Go in January
I have no idea why Arsenal did not do all they can to actually ensure Sagna was under contract. I am reading that he will be a free agent in January and he is keeping his options open. That is BAD news for Arsenal fans, and they need be very worried because losing Sagna would be a HEFTY blow to them which a lot of the Gunners faithful may not be aware of.
The alternative to Sagna is Jenkinson, who has obviously improved but.....JENKINSON? Against bigger teams, Jenkinson gets exposed and he is still a squad player. Then we have Gibbs who may be used out on that flank or Monreal...both players are inferior to Sagna. Gibbs has definitely been a consistent player, but he needs to vary his game. He does not have the footballing qualities Sagna has as a wing back. There is a reason why Sagna receives the ball so much whenever Arsenal attack. If you watch closely, the amount of times he is given the ball out on the wing and he makes that cross from deep is NUMEROUS. That is why I held my head and wondered how Wenger allowed for Sagna's contract to run out in January without trying hard to keep him. The way in which Arsenal play puts a lot of emphasis on the wing back, and the sad reality is with Andre Santos being sold, Arsenal only have ONE really wing back and that is Sagna.
I would think long and hard if I was advising Sagna. Staying at Arsenal at a club that you know may be advisable, but I don't trust Arsenal in winning trophies. If you now look at Dortmund who are depleted or even Madrid who could do with another wing back to complement Marcelo, then you can see that there is definitely an upside in Sagna leaving and trying to get the most out of his career.
