What used to piss me off about Benzema was how he forgot what being a striker was about. At Euro 2012, the dude that was supposed to be a striker was busy hanging out just outside the 18 yard box, happy to be an attacking-midfielder and pass the ball around. He just didn't seem interested in actually being a striker and trying to get in attacking areas to score. To put it simply, he was crap and carried that on for Real Madrid.
I have no idea what injections or drugs Ancelotti gave him, but Benzema has finally been knocking goals in and was one of the STARS for Real Madrid in the past season. That dude that we saw in Lyon, finally came alive and showed his power and direct bulldogging attacking display. But could he do it at the big stage at the World Cup?
Deschamps is a much better coach than Blanc. That's just a fact. But as France struggled to qualify and with no Ribery, I thought they would be hopeless. But somehow, he has France unified and has them clicking. It is what he's gotten out of Benzema that has stood out. In both matches, whenever Benzema receives the ball, you feel France will either score or create a chance. He plays the right balls, he runs with the ball and is not afraid to take a shot. But more importantly like that ball that Pogba played to him, he is making those attacking runs into the box and is looking to score. THAT is what strikers do and it's what Germany have been learning with what Klose did with his first touch.
If Benzema keeps on playing at this level and maintains his performances, this is a cup that is France's for the taking. Any team with a VERY good striker have a very good chance of winning any tournament. And Benzema has to continue to grow and carry France forward and as the matches get tighter, that's where he needs to do what Ronaldo did in 2002 with Brazil...GET THAT GOAL.
