HERRERA MUST THINK LONG AND HARD OF HOW TO STOP ROBBEN AND VAN PERSIE, AS MEXICO TAKE ON THE MIGHTY DUTCH
He's crazy. Maybe not as insane as Suarez....but he's definitely up there. Herrera has been the sideline STAR of the World Cup and I think everyone wants Mexico to score, just to see how he will celebrate. But in all seriousness, HE CAN COACH. This is the most solid Mexican team I have ever seen and Herrera has introduced a strategic and tactical discipline to them. But they won't be facing Croatia....THE SUPER DUTCH. A team that can beat anyone on their day, but as Herrera would know from his research...it's a team that are always ready to implode and choke.
Herrera has got to go deep into his battle plan and get EVEN more out of his defense that has been the foundation of their success. For the first time, they will be facing TWO OF THE MOST DEADLY attacking players in the world. But if he is wise, he must realize the threat of Fer and Depay as well as the great distribution that Blind can put in. Heavy.
But if he were to watch Dortmund or just call Klopp for a coffee and tortilla, he would see that there IS a way no nullify Robben Hood, and also play your game. That is the key thing, the Mexicans cannot sacrifice their counter-attacking game or their shape just to stop one man. Robben WILL get his chances, but it's all about restricting him to how many of those he gets and trusting the Jumping Mexican Acrobat known as Ochoa....or JMA.
Ochoa WILL be needed in this match. Van Persie, Robben and others will be doing their best to open up that Mexican booty. So it's going to be a pretty eventful few hours for him. But I have faith in that Mexican defense. I think that they are better than the Chileans at defending as a UNIT and I think they will make it hard for the Dutch, if Van Gaal does not get his tactics right.
As for going the other way, I believe Chicharito MUST start. There's that saying, yes I know it, one should never change a winning formula. But I have another, and it's try and catch your enemy unawares, and HIT him hard before he has a chance to react.
Van Gaal will be preparing for Peralta and Dos Santos up front, and will have studied their movements tirelessly. If Herrera just puts in Chicharito ON the day...alongside Peralta with Dos Santos sitting deeper in midfield, then that will screw up Van Gaal's plans. THAT is where it could get tasty, and Mexico, if they defend well, can spring their upset.
