Every team needs a hero. When the going gets tough, it's simply not enough to just keep going tactically. Somebody must RISE up and change the course of the game. That is what Neymar's role is and for all the hype, the boy dragged Brazil through a very uneasy, tricky match against a superbly disciplined Croatia
Neymar IS young. People forget the dude is 22/23. To have such weight of expectation upon him is HUGE. But what I admired about what he did was how he realized what time it was. He did not cower under the enormous pressure of going a goal down from an own goal. He did not put his trust in his older peers raising their games to match his. Instead, he did what Ronaldo, Zidane and Maradona and Pele did; he demanded the ball and he DROVE his team forward. That essentially is what helped Brazil out of this difficult game. People knew that Croatia were a good team technically, but nobody foresaw how Nico Kovac would brilliantly nullify all of Brazil's weapons.
It is food for thought for Scolari. As the tournament goes on, Brazil may meet Uruguay who are another very tough defensive team. They again will need to somehow break them down, and Neymar will have to be the one to INSPIRE others to raise their game. Sometimes y'all, you can't pass your way out of trouble. Spain have been fortunate in not having to face very defensive and physical teams. ONLY way you beat those teams is by doing what Neymar did. SCREW passing the ball, you need to RUN with it and DRIBBLE. That is the only music I want to hear.
This can be Neymar's tournament. God help Brazil if he is injured because at such a tender age, he has already shown that he can go on to be a great player. But forget the future, this is now. Neymar must show what he is made of and forget his age and continue to be the inspiring force for Brazil as they seek redemption for 1950.
