I remember when Vela was part of that Arsenal midfield. When Cesc and Pleb....Hleb....used to strut their feet. When Wenger jettisoned him off to Sociedad, I thought that was a bit harsh. He was a young player who looked like he could really become a lot better. That was proven by his performances for Mexico. But...with Ozil and Cazorla coming in, then it looked as if Vela's Arsenal's days were done. So....why is Wenger activating this buy-back clause?
Vela has been doing well for Sociedad but surely he can't be on the level of Ozil or Cazorla? And Ramsey is on a whole other dimension after his amazing season. So one must wonder wher Vela fits in and if it would be wise to move if Arsenal have an injury-free season. I'm sure Vela would rather START for Sociedad than BENCH for Arsenal.
I just wonder why Wenger did not use this clause for Fabregas and instead opted for Vela. It really won't strengthen their team or make them real title contenders. What Arsene should be sweating blood for is a DAMN striker...who is the exact OPPOSITE of Giroud. The area that Arsenal are blessed with and have very little issues is midfield. Getting Vela is just a pointless move to make and I would reject it if I was Carlos.
On a brief side note....how many clauses and backchannel contracts actually exist in football?
