Why Stoke City AWAY is the Toughest Match in European Football

Stoke City will never win the Champions League. That is a fact that cannot be disputed. They are a mid-table team at best. Winning the Premiership is nowhere near on the horizon. But despite all these shortcomings....they do have their strength. "Big" teams don't like playing them when they go to their cribb!

In December through to February, it gets very cold on the island known as Britain. But in some places, its colder, harsher and grittier. Now, when you combine that with a team that plays PHYSICAL, direct and is ready for a fight, that is why Stoke is a tough place to go. But the funny thing about football is its about match-ups.

If Malaga, Torino or Frankfurt played Stoke away, they would probably beat them. Because they are around the same sort of level, psychologically Stoke would not raise their game, and based just on personnel, I would put cash on Stoke getting beaten.

When you have Bayern or Barcelona taking a trip to Stoke, they are expected to win. So already, Stoke have that psychological advantage that the underdog always has. But once you bring in the fact that it is a COLD and WINDY day up in Stoke, these are conditions that deter the better and more technical players. Stoke are used to it, but the "big" teams are not. This can screw with you as you try to get into a rhythm. Obviously, the talent can see you through, but the level of difficulty is high based on the scenario you are faced with.

Do NOT underestimate how cold weather with a nice gust of wind can mess up your flow. Especially for teams who like the passing game like Arsenal, the conditions work against you. And oh, if you are not prepared to do a bit of fighting....there is a great chance you will get beat.

Stoke City. Away. Don't mess.
