So in the aftermath of the lubrication handed to Real by Atletico, it got me thinking about how Atletico and Simeone is perceived.
Because yes, they are respected as a tough team but more credit must be given to just how much of a good football team they are. End of.
That is where the druglord's team do not get the credit that they deserve. Because we just hear about how they are fighters and really tough, but they are never just called an elite football team. Because apparently, only an elite team has "superstars".
People need to watch closely when they have the ball and they attack. Folks need to look at the great football brain of Turan, and how he ties all the pieces together. But the real star is Simeone, who everyone thought would fail after Costa and Courtois left. He found some blonde dude called Antoine and an unwanted Croatian and they have clearly moved on, are competing and also giving their rivals a spanking that the other dudes couldn't do.
More has to be made of the amazing record that Simeone has against the richest club in the world this season. It is an incredible achievement which makes the awards scene look like complete dog excrement. And I think it is time that we stop the rhetoric of Atletico being a bunch of thugs and just a physical team....which they are.
Instead, let us praise a rare victory for football in an age of overpaid " superstars." Because Simeone is doing this with NO stars, and is relying purely on putting together a strong unit that fight for each other and play football the simple but right and effective way.
