Lewandowski Still Has Potential to be All-Time Great Striker

He can still get better.

That's correct, amigos. As good and lethal as Lewandowski is, he has not yet reached his full potential. Lewandowski can not only be one of the best strikers of his generation, but he has the ability to be talked of in the same breath as Weah, Batistuta and even the immortal Ronaldo.

It is right for people to praise Lewandowski. He is without two shadows of a doubt, in the top three category of strikers in the world. His striking ability, movement, ability on the ball, goal-haul and versatility make him incredibly hard to mark. But even with all of this, we have not seen the best of him and as good a coach Pep may be, he has not yet fully realized the full powers of the Polish finisher.

There have been times when Lewandowski has shown what he can do. You can look at the Wolfsburg game where created history with scoring five goals in one half and in an incredibly short space of time. Something that when you say it, it's hard to fathom. Or you can just see how incredibly dangerous he can be when given the space and room to maneouvre. That is the Lewandowski that impresses me. A player who is not only concerned with scoring goals, but also showing all the different things he can do on the ball.

The problem is we haven't seen it often enough. When Robben comes into the team and Bayern are at full strength, too many times I see Lewandowski lost. He is cut in the middle and struggles to get himself in the game with so much individual talent. Pep hasn't been able to figure this out, and that is perhaps why they will struggle to win a Champions League under him. Because as amazing as Bayern are, with all the super talent that they can boast; your striker is the one who can get you out of a ditch and win you those tight games that you will always have in a Champions League.

Lewandowski is at his best when the team is built around him. Where he is the focus of attention, and the entire team works to feed him, and play into the kinds of runs he makes. That is where you will see the best of him because as I mentioned, he can do so many things. Whether it's timing his run for header from a cross, striking the ball from outside the area, or even dribbling past defenders and slotting that cookie home; he can do it all. For someone like this, if I was a coach, I wouldn't just restrict him to being a striker and remaining in that position. That's for guys like Gomez or Giroud. I would make him the nucleus of the team.

Hopefully Ancelotti realizes this when he sees Lewandowski in training, and he can make Bayern more free-flowing, direct but also make Nukowski the very fabric of the team. If they can do that, then Bayern could perhaps be an unbeatable force in the Champions League.
