Pellegrini Could Give Almighty F.U. to Pep by Winning Champions League

Okay, the likeliness of this happening is nil to minus nil. Man City winning the Champions League? A competition where they haven't even flirted with the semis before? It seems improbable, impossible and ridiculous to even put forward such a notion. But...what if?

It would be a case of Groundhog day for Pep. Remember when he was announced as the Bayern manager? That was whilst Heynckes was seeing out his final season, and he was trying to hopefully right the wrongs of that bitter defeat to Chelsea last year. You see, the script was supposed to go like Pep heading to Bayern to deliver them what they craved; the Champions League, a trophy they had not worn since the great wall of Kahn was in goal.

Heynckes didn't get his copy of the screenplay, and he just went off the rails and won them all three of the major trophies. So when Pep came, it was no longer the story of the great Spanish saviour here to lead Bayern to the Promised Land. It was more like...erm...okay...can you please do what Heynckes just did? But maybe better?

A similar scenario could occur. Let's face it, the real reason why Pep is being hired by City is not to use him for a slapping contest on his shiny head. Nope. He's been brought in for the Champions League. Just what Hoeness and Rumenigge wanted him for. But if Pellegrini was to be naughty, and somehow win the Champions League, it takes the luster off Pep's arrival yet again. And moreso, the person with the last smile will be Pellegrini.

All this is very likely not to happen. Even if City get past Kyev, which they should, they will most likely get knocked out in the quarters or definitely in the semis. They have yet to show the kind of football and approach needed to be successful in this competition. Perhaps, that's what Pep can do, taking them to a higher footballing level at this stage.

But just for giggles...it would be amusing if City were to somehow, someway win the Champions League.
