Barcelona Making a Mockery of La Liga
I keep getting told how La Liga is the best league in the world, and is the leader with regards to footballing talent. The argument may be strong when you think about the domination of Spanish teams in the Champions League and UEFA Cup. But let's just talk about the league itself solely. The fact is that the La Liga is pretty much pointless to watch when you see the ease with which Barcelona roll through teams.
The whole point of watching a league is to see who will win. Just like in the Premiership, there is much excitement and anticipation as to which of four different teams will lift the trophy in May. Same can't be said with La Liga where there is literally only one team competing against themselves for the title. There is scientifically and mathematically a 0% chance of anyone other than Barcelona winning the La Liga this season.
So what is the point in watching?
This is similar to what Juventus is doing in the Serie A, but not exactly the same. Juventus are on their way to their fifth consecutive title, but they have been made to work for it. They don't smack open teams, but have to really dig deep and fight to win their matches. A lot of which are just one goal swings. It's still not ideal and how the Serie A used to be, but at least you've felt Juventus have somehow earned their victory.
I'm not saying Barcelona do not deserve the title wins that they've mustered up, but the way in which they lubricate teams, totally annihilating them just is making a mockery of the league. I think they average three goals a game these days, and that is either home or away. The gulf in class between them and 97% of the league is staggering. And the ridiculous school-level scorelines show this. You just have to wonder whether people actually give a sh*t that the level of competition makes the league look bad from those on the outside looking in.
As a neutral fan, what excitement do you get out of watching Barcelona put five, six or seven G's past another team?
It's simple. As long as Barcelona have this exact team, they will win the league. Doesn't matter what happens with Real Madrid, because they are so far behind Barcelona in regards to cohesiveness that all the money in the world won't buy them the title. So what will happen then? Will people just be happy to see Barcelona sleepwalk to a league title every season or will...and this is where things get dicy...will some sort of organization change the way in which players are acquired and bring in a cap system to promote competition?
Doubt it....HH
