Liverpool were Close to Perfect Result but Villareal GET THAT CHEDDAR
So close. Liverpool were minutes away from taking a really great result to Anfield. It was almost a perfect gameplan, where Liverpool put up a great defensive display. But they just couldn't hold through and Villareal's huffing and puffing and their efforts were rewarded.
If Klopp looks back at the goal, he would smack his head with a spiked shovel. They could have left Spain with a goalless draw which would have been ideal for the second leg. But they pushed up looking forward for that G and got punished for it with Kolo Toure misjudging the height of the ball and a pass getting placed at Adrian's feet for a simple tap-in.
What impressed me the most about Liverpool's performance was how well they coped with a really good attacking team. Villareal came at them with all their guns, and Liverpool coped very well. There was no space and rarely did they really get opened up. Villareal only had a few shots on target which showed how well Klopp studied Villareal's tactics.
So I am still sticking with Liverpool to get it done at Anfield. Klopp should be confident in knowing they can defend Villareal, and also they created a lot of really good chances with Firmino hitting the bar and the Welsh Pirlo really should have scored in the first half if he put the ball in the corner. All in all, there is something there where Liverpool can use the emotional Anfield crowd and take this game to Villareal and come out as victors.
For SURE, the Ridge will have to start in attack. HH
