Barcelona do the Double, but Not getting the Treble Will Hurt
Meh, did anyone really think that Sevilla would win this? Yeah they pimped Liverpool and are a really good football team. But when they had the extra man for large amount of time, and did not make their advantage pay then I had my doubts. The moment Banega got sent off, the pendulum completely swung in the way of Barcelona and they got the job done.
So it's been a pretty successful season for Barcelona. Any team who wins the domestic double should be really happy and overjoyed. It's still a very long way until Barcelona get close to Madrid's liga haul, but as far as this generation are concerned, they just keep on making history and further stamping on the fact that they are the most successful Barcelona team of all time.
Despite all that though, there is a bit of disappointment in the air. When the Champions League final rolls around this weekend, I'm sure Messi, Neymar, Iniesta and others will reflect on the way that they got beat by Atletico. Keep in mind, before those two games, Barcelona had an amazing record of victories over Atletico. So not only were they the better team on papier, but they also had the better record.
All signs were pointing to a Barcelona victory.
So for them to lose and miss out on defending their title, would have hurt. They would have had confidence in beating Pep's Bayern with a fully fit team as they did last season and of course, defeating their fierce rivals to win the treble would have been the sweetest way to end the year. HH
