Cavani Now as Main Striker for PSG May Bring out Best in Him
Zlatan is gone. PSG's main man, the goalscoring phenom...albeit in the mighty and extremely tough Ligue 1. But still, someone needs to take up the mantle with the departure of the Swedish talisman. Many will say PSG must dip into their pocket and spend the cash on a quality striker, but I don't think they have to because the Uruguayan vampire (no, the other one eats people not just suck their blood) may actually flourish now.
I've always said and nobody wants to listen to me that Cavani does better as a lone striker and doesn't work well with Ibrahimovic. Every time they have played together, it's never worked. Too similar, and zero chemistry with there being nothing even resembling teamwork or a parntership.
However, Cavani played the lone striker role for Napoli to great effect. If he can be given that role for PSG with Lucas just playing off of him, you will see the benefits. His characteristics of being good in the air, knowing how to hold the ball up and play as a target man as well linking the play, make him perfect for this position. Whether Blanc sees that is another story altogether.
This is not guaranteed to work because Cavani has been bricking it up so long, playing second fiddle to the superstar status of Ibrahimovic that hey may not even know how to play the lone role well enough. But all you can do is try and PSG have enough good players for them to still be successful even if Cavani does his best flopping impression.
And if the Cannibal Suarez is out of the Copa America...then Cavani can start to regain his confidence as the main striker this summer in the States for Uruguay. HH
